Once again, the US is behind the times. Europe is moving to ban three common allergens that are commonly part of fragrance bases. You can read this linked article for more information. What isn’t discussed are the other chemicals in fragrances designed to penetrate the skin so that the fragrance lasts longer. And then keep in mind: just because the label says “fragrance-free” or “unscented” doesn’t mean that they are free of dangerous chemicals. They are often added to cover-up a nasty odor of the base product. This article has a nice list of “fragrance” chemicals to avoid. If you must use a “fragrance”, try adding a safe, excellent quality essential oil (not all are appropriate for topical use!) to water–shake and spritz yourself. 🙂
