Such sad news . . . those of us planting flowers to help support bees may in fact be contributing to their demise. The Pesticide Research Group reports that neonicotinoids, the pesticides implicated in Colony Collapse Disorder, are found in plants sold at nurseries! To quote: “Unfortunately, pollinator friendly nursery plants sold to unsuspecting consumers carry neither a list of pesticides used, nor do they carry a warning that these pesticides could harm pollinators.” Please read more here, and pass this info along! We may need to start all our plants from seeds or at least purchase only organic flowers.
