Probiotics to Support Antibiotic Treatments

Evidence is showing that the use of probiotic-rich foods may prevent antibiotic-associated diarrhea.  In addition, previous research suggests that after one round of antibiotics, it can take up to 2 years to repopulate the GI tract and that flora imbalances often persist.   As a result, I typically prescribe probiotic capsules to be taken during and after antibiotic therapy–at least 2 hours away from any antibiotic dose.  If you have been, or are, on antibiotics, call for an appointment.  For article, click here.
