Long-term Effect of Salt and High Blood Pressure

We all have heard that salt consumption may increase your blood pressure–this occurs via water-retention in susceptible individuals.  New research, though, is finding that long-term consumption of salty foods actually damages the blood vessels.  Researchers know that damaged blood vessels are associated with hypertension (high blood pressure).  If this occurs, a salt-free diet may not be enough to reduce blood pressure to normal levels.  Read more here.
