Testosterone for Men–Often Not the Best Approach . . .

This is an interesting article debating the use of testosterone in men. It is become more frequently prescribed for men suffering from fatigue, depression, and low libido. Often however it will aggravate the problem. In my practice, most men with low testosterone are actually over-converting their testosterone to estrogen. As a result, if they are supplemented testosterone, they may notice a brief improvement then aggravation or worsening of their symptoms. This is because, with more testosterone they are now creating even more estrogen. These men may also then develop abdominal weight gain, increased breast tissue, and even mood swings. Please be sure your doctor checks your estrogen levels as well as your testosterone levels before you start testosterone treatment! There are options, too–call for an appointment!
