Going Gluten-Free? Watch Out for Marketing!

August 4th, 2015

In general, when I recommend a gluten-free diet to a patient, I also recommend a low- (or no-) grain diet. Do NOT try and find gluten-free substitutes for bread, crackers, etc., but change your eating habits in general. Include more vegetables instead of grains. It may be OK for an occasional serving of quinoa or brown rice, but not necessary. It also may be OK for a treat of a piece of gluten-free bread. But I have found few gluten-free baked goods that I would consider healthy or a needed part of a diet–they are treats 🙂 Check out this article.
