Gout Attacks May Be Increased With Sleep Apnea

November 3rd, 2015

Recent research is revealing that those who suffer sleep apnea are at increased risk of gout attacks–a condition of extreme joint pain, particularly of the big toe. If you’ve been diagnosed with gout, you may want to consider assessment for sleep apnea as well!

Chronic Pain? Try these . . .

January 16th, 2015

There are many “natural” options to help reduce pain and inflammation. Diet is key as is exercise. Eliminate sugar, nightshades (tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, etc. ), gluten, and any foods that you know you have adverse reactions. Move!–exercise is truly our best friend. Homeopathic or topical Arnica is wonderful for muscle aches and pains. Epsom salt baths are another favorite of mine–the magnesium can help not only reduce muscle aches but support detoxification. I also love turmeric (divide the doses throughout the day). Check out this article, too.

Hormone Imbalance??

October 6th, 2014

While we tend to think of menopause as the time for hormone imbalance (and it IS as the ovaries retire), there are other hormone imbalances that can adversely impact our overall health and mood. Excessive fatigue may be due to thyroid or adrenal imbalances. Excessive hair growth or loss may be a testosterone problem. Sleep problems may be due to blood sugar crashes and adrenal stress. And please note that blood testing is not always the best for determining these imbalances. Please call for an appointment to discuss options for you and a treatment plan customized for you!!

May 22nd, 2014

Better diagnostic abilities may be on the horizon for those suffering fro fibromyalgia. This may help many sufferers get medical attention in the standard medical model. Rheumatoid Arthritis Treatment

April 17th, 2014

I’ve just read about this plant, Triptergium wilfordii, for use in rheumatoid arthritis. It supposedly works as well as methotrexate without the side effects. If you suffer from rheumatoid arthritis, please ask your doctor if this might be worth a trial for you. Read more here.

Hot Peppers for Cluster Headache Treatment??

April 14th, 2014

This may be worth a read, and possibly a trial. During the process of studying the effects of topical hot peppers to the nose, medical students (yes, students) learned that the pain of the initial application decreased until they could feel nothing. Researchers took this further to determine whether the application would also reduce the pain of cluster headaches–the answer is YES! Please talk to your doctor prior to trying this treatment. Read more here.

Reduce Inflammation–Eat Cruciferous Veggies!!

April 11th, 2014

Recent research is revealing that those who eat the most cruciferous vegetables have lower rates of inflammatory markers. What is a cruciferous veggie?? Broccoli, kale, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, and cabbage are just a few. Please include these in your diet–I saute kale and broccoli with lemon grass, basil, and mushrooms for breakfast, delicious!! (and I add an egg or small piece of sausage for a little more protein–stay satisfied all morning!!). To your health!!

Folate vs. Folic acid

November 11th, 2013

There is a lot of confusion out there regarding whether or not “folic acid” (Vitamin B9) is safe to supplement. The answer likely lies in the form being supplemented. Folic acid has been the most common form of Vitamin B9 in our supplements. But our diet contains folate (think foliage). Problems begin to arise for those who cannot methylate “folic acid”—and up to 35% of us have this condition. So, be sure any supplements you are taking contain “folates” not “folic acid”–and read a great article by clicking here.
