Baking Soda May Reduce Autoimmune Imbalance

May 24th, 2018

How exciting that a common kitchen item may reduce autoimmune inflammation. Baking Soda! So far the studies are  in mice, but hopefully will apply to humans as well. Please be judicious and check with your doctor before supplementing baking soda, though, as it can reduce ability to digest food, is a source of sodium which may impact blood pressure and edema, etc.

Anodized Cookware–Probably best to avoid it

May 19th, 2018

Anodized cookware uses a process to oxidize aluminum creating a non-stick surface. Theorectically this surface should be non-reactive, however, as soon as there is a scratch, the risk of aluminum leaching into your food increases. I recommend avoiding it. I also recommend avoiding copper and those with non-stick coatings. Here is a nice summary on anodized cookware from Dr. Weil. I recommend porcelain-coated cast iron or stainless steel.

Vitamin C for Your Brain Function!

May 18th, 2018

Love this article on the importance of adequate Vitamin C for brain function. This is just another in a list of many reasons to supplement Vitamin C. I often prescribe it to “bowel tolerance” or a maximum of 10,000 mg daily in divided doses. I know others who prescribe even higher doses via IV therapies. A minimal dose in my opinion is 1,000 mg Vitamin C twice daily. AND eat those Vitamin C-rich foods, too!!

Benzos–Use Great Caution

May 11th, 2018

Benzos (benzodiazepines such as Valium, Xanax and Ativan) are very addictive and can end up causing increased health difficulties. If you are suffering from anxiety or insomnia, please know that there are safer options that may eliminate or reduce the need for benzos! For many people, sleep quality is improving by simply avoiding screen time for at least 2 hours prior to bedtime and taking magnesium glycinate.  Check out this article . . .
